Bolts Pass On Inside Knowledge

October 28th, 2009

Rick Tocchet and co. didn't take advantage of brotherly insight into Sabres goalie Ryan Miller

Joe’s embarassed. When the Sabres tied the Bolts with just seconds left on Saturday, Joe was completely in shock by the hockey fan equivalent of taking a baseball bat to the groin.

Joe was so angry (for days) that he never contemplated using Drew Miller in the shootout against his brother, Sabres stud goalie Ryan Miller, who had the Bolts’ number the entire game and stoned them in the shootout.

Per the Damian Cristodero, of the St. Pete Times, Rick Tocchet didn’t think of that, either.

“Honestly, I didn’t even think of the brother thing during the moment. Maybe I should have,” [Tocchet said.] Miller said he did not lobby — “The game is bigger than that” – and did not offer his teammates advise on how to beat his brother. “You start doing that, and then he makes the save, just let them do their thing.”

Sorry, Tocchet, not only should you have strongly considered using Drew Miller, you should have already consulted with him and known everything he knew about his brother’s weaknesses in the shootout.

All the film study in the world wouldn’t have offered more than Drew Miller, when it comes to his brother.

He could have even told his Bolts teammates what to bark at the Sabres netminder to get in his head when they skated past him.

You know, things only a brother would know, like “We know you’re afraid of spiders.” or “Have the genital warts returned?” or “Your mom knows the truth about the crushed fender on her SUV.”

But, no. The Bolts opted to beat Ryan Miller on pure talent alone.

Joe hopes the the Bolts don’t miss the playoffs by a point this season.
