“If we continue to make those kind of mistakes, we don’t have a chance (to make the playoffs). We don’t have a good enough team to make those mistakes.”  –  Goalie Mike Smith after the Bolts lost 3-0 to the Detroit Red Wings tonight.

Whoa! Did Smitty just say the Bolts aren’t good enough to overcome mistakes? What about that star power on the roster? Where’s the love and faith, Smitty?

The quote above comes from the Detroit Free Press in a postgame story after tonight’s predictable debacle.

For many weeks Adam Oates and Rick Tocchet have talked about their team’s struggles with confidence and resiliency during games. And obviously, the Bolts stink right now.

But to hear your goalie drop a line like that on a reporter is especially disheartening. Make you wonder how many other Bolts don’t think the team is good enough.

It’s not the players, it’s the system, and he’s right. Not to mention he’s feeling a little stung from the trade rumors, but he isn’t exactly a wall in front of the net…er, corner.
